People + Planet

We care deeply about the way our garments are produced. We want to make sure that as a business we don’t impact negatively on the environment or supply chain workers.

We strive to make thoughtful and informed decisions about every facet of business operations. Below is a list of some of the choices we’ve made in order to reduce our negative impact on people and planet, and increase our positive impact:

Manufacturing

At the core of our business is a desire to bring happiness and positivity not only to the children who wear our garments, but to every person involved in bringing our product into being. From the cotton farmer to the garment factory worker, we know everybody deserves a living wage and safe working conditions. That's why we choose to partner with Net Paradigm India Pvt Ltd, a factory regularly audited by Sedex, as well as OCC Apparel, Australia.

We choose GOTS certified organic cotton. Organic farming doesn’t degrade soil and water through the use of pesticides, thereby eliminating health risks to cotton farmers and marine life.

Packaging

We keep packaging to the bare minimum and avoid plastic at every step of the production, packaging and mailing process. Your order comes packed inside a beautiful organic cotton Little Emperor mini pillowcase keepsake, and our swing tags are printed on 100% recycled paper using vegetable based inks. As of May 2019, we now ship your order using a Hero Packaging 100% biodegradable, compostable mailing satchel.

Giving Back

At the core of the Little Emperor brand is love and respect for our oceans and marine life. Our logo, the emperor penguin, is emblematic of this commitment. As of 1st July 2019, we are now proud members of 1% for the Planet, meaning 1% of sales are donated to environmental nonprofits.

Waste

We think carefully about everything we put in the bin. The biggest waste product from the garment construction process is fabric off cuts. In an effort to eliminate our contribution to landfill, we retain our cotton fabric off cuts, and sew them together to make blankets. Other suggestions are very welcome!

Utilities

We choose to partner with other environmentally responsible businesses. Our energy provider for our Sydney based design office is Red Energy, a renewable energy provider owned by Snowy Hydro. We bank with Bank Australia (formerly bankmecu), a customer owned bank based in Victoria that doesn’t invest in fossil fuel industries. This is not a paid endorsement.

Suggestions

Little Emperor is always open to learning about new ways to improve our environmental footprint. If you know a way that we can improve our impact on the environment, we’d love to hear from you!
